The Fall Session for 1st through 6th grade is designed to give educational opportunities to both 1st-3rd grade students with the “Story Theatre” class from 9-10:30 a.m. and 4th-6th grade students with the “Script from Scratch” class from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Classes will be offered on Saturdays, September 16-November 4; cost will be $150. “Story Theatre” takes one of our favorite stories, Stellaluna, and we will create a play! We will dress up, play, learn about storytelling, character, and generally have a great time making our favorite stories come to life! We’ll use all that we learn during the eight week class to create a play based on the book Stellaluna. Students will be guided through basic theatre techniques within the framework of the story. But most of all, we will have fun inside one of our favorite stories! And then we will perform it as a showcase for friends and family. “Script from Scratch” uses our imaginations to put characters in new situations in our very own play! In this class, we’ll work on acting, storytelling, and playwriting skills to create a play for the showcase at the end of our eight week class. As a class, we will brainstorm, improvise, and perform in a short play of our own creation.
“Revisiting the Classics” will be offered for 7th-12th grades on Mondays, September 18-November 6 from 5:30-7 p.m.; cost will be $150. This class offers students the chance to delve deep into the classics of theatre (plays written before 1950). Students will explore several different styles, including Greek drama, Shakespeare, Moliere, and Eugene O’Neill just to name a few. After analyzing the text, students will be coached through assigned performance pieces. Studying the different styles of theatre will give students a better understanding of acting, as well as tools to use in contemporary play styles
