A heartrending tale of a spinster undone by dreams.
We’ll honor literary giant Tennessee Williams during the state’s bicentennial celebration with a production of one of his plays set in Mississippi. Set in Glorious Hill, Mississippi, Alma Winemiller is a sensitive and lonely young woman, who has become increasingly restive and disturbed by the fear that she will remain a spinster. Hemmed in by her stern father and deranged mother, Alma makes a final and almost desperate attempt to win the man of her choice. Alma’s touching attempts to sway his emotions and his uncertainty as to where his heart should lead him, makes for a complex relationship. In the end, neither can break the ties of family and position, which draws them apart and defeats Alma’s hopes for a new and fuller life. Recommended for ages 14 and older.
