Registration for the auditions will open on June 29 for the youth auditions and July 17 for the adult auditions.

New Stage Theatre, Mississippi’s Professional Theatre located in Jackson, Mississippi, will be holding open auditions for non-Equity and Equity adult actors on Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12.  Actors interested in roles during the 2017-2018 season should attend the auditions. Auditions for youth ages 6-17 will be held on Saturday, July 15.

The theatre is seeking all types of male and female adult actors and singers, from age 18 to 80 and child actors age 6 and up to portray roles in Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, Eccentricities of A Nightingale by Tennessee Williams, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Silent Sky, Shakespeare in Love, and the musical comedy Sister Act.

“In the past ten seasons I have been very excited and pleased by the caliber of actors, singers, and musicians who have come in to audition during our annual open audition call. Each year continues to impress me. We have frequently found new faces from the auditions and I have been amazed by the consistency of talent demonstrated by more established actors. It has been satisfying to employ so many actors discovered through our open audition process,” said Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds. “We are looking forward to seeing the best actors, singers, and actor/musicians that Mississippi and the South has to offer and finding a place for them on stage at New Stage Theatre during the 2017-2018 52nd season.”

The upcoming season’s selection of plays offers the opportunity to cast a wide range and diversity of talent from the powerful female roles in the Tennessee Williams play and new play Silent Sky and to the classic British characters in Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. Shakespeare in Love requires a large cast of women and men as well as musicians and a small dog.  Actors, singers, and musicians are needed for Beauty and the Beast and Sister Act. Beauty and the Beast also requires a few child, youth, and young adult singers and actors. Actors who play string instruments are especially needed for Shakespeare in Love. Directors viewing the auditions will also be considering actors for other projects during the year, such as the Unframed at New Stage Theatre Series and The Eudora Welty New Play Series in the Hewes Room Theatre and Warehouse Theatre spaces.  New Stage Theatre follows an inclusive casting policy which means that casting is open to all actors regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or age.

Actors must call the theatre at 601.948.3533 ext 236 for an audition appointment. A one to two-minute memorized monologue and a recent photo is required for the audition. Actors may also prepare 60 seconds of any song. New Stage will provide a CD/iPod player and a keyboard.  Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments. Resumes are not mandatory but actors may provide one if they like. Actors should arrive 15 minutes prior to audition time to complete paperwork. Actors will have a maximum of three minutes for their audition.
