Build Your Book with Carol Joy Sparkman: Musical Theatre 101
Teacher: Carol Joy Sparkman
Dates: Tuesdays October 27—November 17; 5:30-7 p.m.
Cost: $100 for 4 weeks
Ages: 18 and up
Build up your repertoire, audition skills, and vocal technique in this four-week musical theatre workshop. Carol Joy served as the music director for New Stage’s productions of Beauty and the Beast, Bright Star, Sister Act, and Matilda the Musical. Participants will learn how to successfully select songs that highlight their range, tone, and vocal quality allowing them to fully showcase their talent in any audition. Participants are asked to prepare a song and submit a video recording for Carol Joy to respond to on the first day of class. All skill levels welcomed.

Playwriting for Adults
Teacher: Joe Frost
Dates: Mondays October 26-November 30; 7-8:30 p.m.
Cost: $150 for 6 weeks
Ages: 18 and up
The houselights go down. The curtain rises. Lights up on a new play, and a new world—created by you! This six-week workshop is designed to help writers of every level navigate the process of generating and developing new play ideas through in-class exercises in structure and dialogue, sharing newly created short scripts, navigating feedback, and polishing through rewrites. As the curtain comes down on the end of the workshop, participants should have a few great ideas for the next great play.

Art of the Audition with Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds
Teacher: Francine Reynolds
Dates: Mondays November 9—30; 5:30-7 p.m.
Cost: $100 for 4 weeks
Ages: 15 and up
Being a good actor and having a good audition technique are two different things. Art of the Audition is specifically designed to breakdown the technique directors are looking for in the casting process. Learn how to get specific analysis text, make authentic acting choices. Participates should expect to work with prepared and cold reading material, discuss how to emotionally and intellectually take charge of the audition, and maximize your chances of landing the role. Participates should come prepared with a 60 second memorized monologue for the first session. All skill levels encouraged.
